About Our Business

New Sound Gospel was the life desire of  Lee E. Johnson.  His first love was music, especially
gospel music.   Mr. Johnson was raised in church, his mother a musician and his father and
grandfather ministers. God called him into the spoken word ministry in 1990 and in 1998 became an
ordained Elder.

In 1978 when Elder Johnson was 32 years old, New Sound Gospel Records & Tapes became a
reality.  His first store, located on the West side of Chicago became the country's "go to" place for
gospel music & consultation. In his second year of his music ministry to the community, bibles, study
guides, gospel tracks, tambourines and other religious items that would help guide and inspire people
from all walks of life were added to the inventory.

The current store located at 10723 S. Halsted St., Chicago IL is the largest independently owned
Gospel music store in the Chicago and suburban area.  The store has a huge inventory, well staffed
with courteous and knowledgeable assistants and offers free parking  The hours are Tue, Thur &
Friday 11AM -7PM.  Saturdays 10AM - 6PM.  Please feel free to stop by and browse. Or you
can call and speak to the president at 773-785-8001.

Elder Lee Johnson is one of the founding fathers of the renown Stellar awards and was also
instrumental in the organization of the widely popular event known as the Chicago Gospel Fest that is
now held annually and draws thousands of visitors from across the country.
